Beadify Pattern Symbols v1

A stable symbol language for readable bead patterns

BPS-1 assigns one permanent graphical label to ordinals 1 through 16. Beadify uses the same registry in Crafting, pattern images, SVG, PDF, and legends so a color keeps its label across views and exports.

BPS-1 is defined and maintained by Beadify. It is not an official standard from a bead vendor, standards body, or the wider craft industry.

The frozen 1–16 registry

Sixteen is the graphical coverage of this version, not a palette or Pattern color limit. Larger ordinals remain valid and use a stable text fallback.

Shape and Mark taxonomy

Shapes provide the outer container; Marks provide a centered internal or standalone detail.

  • Shape primitives: circle, square, triangle, and diamond.
  • Mark primitives: dot, horizontal bar, vertical bar, plus, and cross.
  • A filled Shape has no Mark. A marked output uses one outlined Shape and exactly one centered Mark.

Standalone safety

Only Marks that remain distinct beside neighboring cells may appear without a Shape.

  • Plus and cross are standalone-safe in BPS-1.
  • Dots require a container because adjacent dots can look like a continuous chain.
  • Horizontal and vertical bars require a container because they can merge with grid lines.

Accessibility and fallback

Symbols supplement color; they never replace the material identity shown in the legend.

  • Legends retain brand, brand color code, color name, and count.
  • Small cells and unsupported ordinals use permanent Number or alphanumeric labels without remapping.
  • Black/white print and light/dark screens use contrast-aware foreground labels.

Version and conformance

The v1 identity and order are immutable so saved Projects and printed references remain understandable.

  • Reordering, reuse, rotation, mirroring, font substitution, emoji, and semantic substitution are not conforming.
  • An extended registry must use a distinct immutable standard id, preserve 1–16, and append at 17 or later.
  • Crafting and every export renderer must derive from the same canonical registry.

Machine-readable BPS-1

The immutable JSON contains the same ordinals, ids, output types, capabilities, composition, and normalized vector paths shown and rendered by Beadify.
